• Match size to distance — Larger codes are safer; aim for at least one-tenth of the expected viewing distance, and increase size for glossy, curved, or textured surfaces.

• Protect the quiet zone — Keep a clean margin around the code and maintain strong contrast between code and background.

• Design for context — Plan placement where users can pause and scan (for example, checkout counters vs. fast-moving corridors). On digital, avoid scaling that blurs edges.

• Validate in the real world — Test on final media with multiple devices, operating systems, and lighting—both Wi-Fi and cellular.

• Plan for weak networks — Keep destinations lightweight; provide a brief nearby instruction (for example, “Scan for details”). Consider adding a readable fallback such as a plain URL or support contact.
